The Toronto Raptors are one of the youngest franchises within the NBA (National Basketball Association). The Raptors compete as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The team was established in 1995, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies, as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. When the Grizzlies relocated to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Memphis Grizzlies in 2001, the Raptors became the only Canadian-based team in the NBA. They now play at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
Along with most expansion teams, the Raptors found their early years quite difficult; however with the arrival of Vince Carter through a draft day trade in 1998, the team set league-attendance records and made the NBA playoffs in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Carter was instrumental in leading the team to a then-franchise high 47 wins and their first playoff series win in 2001, where they advanced to the Eastern Conference semi-finals. This momentum was not maintained and it was not until 2006 when the Raptors qualify for their first playoff berth in five years, capturing the Atlantic Division title with 47 wins. In the 2007–08 season, they advanced to the playoffs again, but failed to make the playoffs in each of the next five seasons.
The best season that the Raptors have clocked up happens to be their latest in 2015-16 when fourth overall in the league and second only to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference. They won playoffs against Indiana Pacers, then went on to win another seven-game series against the Miami Heat. The Raptors, who were one of the four teams that never reached the NBA Conference Finals in their histories, appeared in the third round for the first time in their twenty-first season, facing the Cleveland Cavaliers who ousted them and went on to become Champions.
Even in a short space time, many Raptors players have acquired hero status among their fan base. Vince Carter (mentioned above) gave the city of Toronto seven unforgettable seasons. Carter is a five-time NBA All-Star, the all-time Raptors leader in field goals made, second on the all-time scoring list and holds the record for most points scored in a single game with 51.
Chris Bosh may be the best statistical player to ever grace the Toronto Raptors, playing the second-most games of anyone. He also played the most minutes of any past Raptors player with 18,813. He has the most total points, the most total rebounds, both offensive and defensive, as well as the most total blocks of any past Raptors player.
Antonio Davis comes close to every rebounding record on the Toronto Raptors. However, he does hold the single-season record in rebounds for the Raptors with 787. He was most certainly known for his ability to grab boards, but he's also seventh in all-time scoring with 3994 total points.
